Certificate in Business German

Students on Summer 2018, Fall 2018, or Spring 2019 requirements BUSGRMACRT
The Certificate in Business German is a passport to careers in German multinationals, European trade partners, international business, law, and government. It is a powerful complement to majors in business, economics, international relations, public affairs, or the humanities.

Requirements

The certificate requires at least 24 credit hours* (at least 18 credit hours of which must be in courses taught in German), including the requirements listed below.
  1. Intermediate German II. One (1) course:
    • GER-G 250 Intermediate German II
  2. Fifth-Semester College German. One (1) course:
    • GER-G 300 Fifth-Semester College German
  3. Sixth-Semester College German. One (1) course:
    • GER-G 330 Sixth-Semester College German
  4. Advanced College German. One (1) course:
    • GER-G 400 Advanced College German (Business German section)
  5. Electives in Germanic Studies. Six (6) credit hours in Germanic Studies taught in German above GER-G 330.
  6. Outside Electives. Two (2) options from the Outside Electives list.

  7. Certificate GPA, Hours, and Minimum Grade Requirements.
    1. At least 9 credit hours in the certificate must be completed in courses taken through the Indiana University Bloomington campus or an IU-administered or IU co-sponsored Overseas Study program.
    2. At least 9 credit hours in the certificate must be completed at the 300–499 level.
    3. Except for the GPA requirement, a grade of C- or higher is required for a course to count toward a requirement in the certificate.
    4. A GPA of at least 2.000 for all courses taken in the certificate—including those where a grade lower than C- is earned—is required.
    5. Exceptions to certificate requirements may be made with the approval of the department's Director of Undergraduate Studies, subject to final approval by the College of Arts and Sciences.
