4+1 College Pathway to the Master of Arts or Master of Science in Geography

Students on Summer 2021, Fall 2021, or Spring 2022 requirements GEOG-PATH

This program is especially suited to students who would like to deepen their practical skills in Geographic Information System (GIS) and/or other research methods in preparation for careers in the public, private, or non-profit sector, or who seek additional training in geographic theory and research as preparation for graduate school applications. Our MA/MS requirements are sufficiently flexible to allow students to create programs that meet their career and academic goals.

Students who are interested in careers in the public, private or non-profit sector can select courses that focus on applied research skills, and orient their Masters research toward methodological or applied topics.

Students interested in pursuing doctoral studies at IU or another institution can select courses  to develop theoretical and substantive understandings in their chosen field,  and focus their Masters research in a more scholarly direction.

Requirements

Students must satisfy all requirements for a baccalaureate degree in the College of Arts Sciences. While graduate courses are typically taken before completion of the baccalaureate degree, they cannot be applied to both the graduate and undergraduate degree. The courses will apply to the graduate degree once the baccalaureate degree has been conferred. Students must also satisfy all the University Graduate School's requirements for the Master of Arts or Master of Science in Geography.
