Description

An understanding of how politics works in other societies—and reflects cultural and structural differences—is increasingly needed in today-s global marketplace. The Minor in World Political Systems provides instruction in the skills and substantive knowledge to understand the theory and practice of government in countries throughout the world. The minor encompasses such global policy issues as environmental management and conflict resolution.

Minor requirements

The minor requires at least 18 credit hours, including the requirements listed below.

  1. International and Comparative Politics. Three (3) courses:
  2. Political Theory and Policy. One (1) course:
  3. Electives. Two (2) courses:
    • Additional course(s) from the International and Comparative Politics list.
    • Additional course(s) from the Political Theory and Policy list.
  4. GPA and Hours Requirements.
    1. Minor Residency. At least 9 credit hours in the minor must be completed in courses taken through the Indiana University Bloomington campus or an IU-administered or IU co-sponsored Overseas Study program.
    2. Minor Upper Division Courses. At least 9 credit hours in the minor must be completed at the 300–499 level.
    3. Minimum Grade. Except for the GPA requirement, a grade of C- or higher is required for a course to count toward a requirement in the minor.
    4. Minor GPA. A GPA of at least 2.000 for all courses taken in the minor—including those where a grade lower than C- is earned—is required.
