  • NAIS-A 150 Introduction to Native American and Indigenous Studies (3 cr.) Introduction to Native American and Indigenous cultures, literature, history, arts, values, life-ways, spirituality, and social and political institutions. Focuses on global and hemispheric elements including North America.
  • NAIS-A 200 Topics in Native American and Indigenous Studies (3 cr.) Explores particular themes, topics, and problems that are of general import to Native American and Indigenous cultures. Topics and aspects will vary, but will usually be broad subjects that cut across fields, regions, periods, and cultures. Particular attention will be given to Indigenous expressions of knowledge. May be repeated with a different topic for a maximum of 3 enrollments.
  • NAIS-A 275 Indigenous Worldviews (3 cr.) Surveys basic aspects of Indigenous life-ways. Introduces comparative cultural analysis, providing a foundation for engaging Indigenous world views. Examines mythology, ritual, health, art, and philosophy; as well as issues of colonialism and globalization. Particular attention will be given to Indigenous ways of learning.
  • NAIS-A 300 Topics in Native American and Indigenous Studies (3 cr.) Explores particular themes, topics and problems that are of general import to Native American and Indigenous cultures.   • NAIS-X 472 Internship for Native American and Indigenous Studies (1–6 cr.) Provides opportunity to receive academic credit for a part-time or full-time, paid or unpaid internship experience in any professional field related to NAIS. Requires a learning contract, employer evaluations, and faculty-supervised critical reflections relating the internship experience to the competencies gained in the Native American and Indigenous Studies. May be repeated with a different topic for a maximum of 12 credit hours. S/F grading.
  • NAIS-X 490 Readings in Native American and Indigenous Studies (1–3 cr.) Enables undergraduates of advanced standing to undertake independent projects under the direction of a NAIS faculty member. Students will typically arrange for 1 to 3 credit hours of work, depending upon the scope of the project. Projects may be interdisciplinary, and should foreground topics of relevance to Indigenous Studies. May be repeated up to 3 times with a different topic for a maximum of 9 credit hours.
