Confidentiality of Records

Policy statement

Indiana University in compliance with the campus-wide General Education Provisions Act Section 438 titled Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) provides that all student records are confidential. Confidential academic information is released by the College of Arts and Sciences only to the student and to person(s) whom the student authorizes in writing to be appropriate recipients of the information. Students may review their records upon request and may ask for amendments to the record if the student believes they are inaccurate misleading or otherwise in violation of the student's privacy rights under FERPA. If the College decides not to amend the record as requested the College will notify the student in writing of the decision and the student's right to a hearing regarding the request for amendment. References recommendations and other similar documents may carry a voluntary waiver relinquishing the student's right to review this specific material.

The student may also release the record to others by signing a written release available in the offices that maintain records.
