Departmental Honors

Students on Summer 2018, Fall 2018, or Spring 2019 requirements MATH-HON

Requirements

The program for mathematics majors normally begins with MATH-S 211 or MATH-S 212. Those who wish to graduate with honors in mathematics are expected to complete courses MATH-S 303, MATH-S 311, MATH-S 312, MATH-S 403, MATH-S 413, MATH-S 414, and at least two 6 credit hour "S" or "M" sequences at the 400–499 level. (MATH-S 403, MATH-S 404 may be used to fulfill this requirement.) Students in this program must achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.300 in all of their courses and at least a grade point average of 3.500 in their mathematics courses. Students who successfully complete most of the courses above may petition the department to qualify for departmental honors. Qualified non-honors students may petition the department to take honors mathematics courses beginning with MATH-S 303 or MATH-S 311.

College of Arts and Sciences Requirements

Students must have a College GPA of 3.300 or higher to qualify for admission to a Departmental Honors program and to receive Departmental Honors. Units may set a higher College GPA.
Units establish additional criteria, including admissions procedures, academic performance standards, and whether there are required courses, papers, or projects.
Students who wish to earn honors in two different units must complete a distinct body of work for each honors notation.
