The certificate requires at least 21 credit hours, including the requirements listed below.

  2. Foreign Language. One (1) foreign language course at the 200–499 level
  3. Global Work Sector Competence. At least eight (8) credits hours in the following areas.
    1. Internship. One (1) course with a minimum of 50 hours of experience. Must be related to one of the designated Peace Corps Prep work sectors and be approved by the certificate coordinator:

    2. Electives. At least two (2) elective courses related to the certificate's goals and Peace Corps Work Sectors from appropriate academic units, determined in consultation with the certificate coordinator.
      1. At least one (1) of the above elective courses must be at the 300–499 level.
      2. One (1) elective course should be designated a Service Learning course or include significant field experience.
  4. Capstone. One (1) course:
    • INTL-I 401 Global Service Capstone
  5. College Disciplines. At least twelve (12) credit hours must be earned within disciplines in the College of Arts and Sciences.
  6. One (1) of the courses used to fulfill requirements 1–7 above must be officially designated a Service Learning course or be an approved experiential-learning course as determined by the certificate coordinator.
  7. Certificate GPA, Hours, and Minimum Grade Requirements.
    1. Certificate GPA. A GPA of at least 2.000 for all courses taken in the certificate—including those where a grade lower than C- is earned—is required.
    2. Certificate Minimum Grade. Except for the GPA requirement, a grade of C- or higher is required for a course to count toward a requirement in the certificate.
    3. Certificate Upper Division Credit Hours. At least 9 credit hours in the certificate must be completed at the 300–499 level.
    4. Certificate Residency. At least 9 credit hours in the certificate must be completed in courses taken through the Indiana University Bloomington campus or an IU-administered or IU co-sponsored Overseas Study program.

Certificate Area Courses
  • Unless otherwise noted below, the following courses are considered in the academic program and will count toward academic program requirements as appropriate:

    • Any course contained on the course lists for the academic program requirements at the time the course is taken—as well as any other courses that are deemed functionally equivalent—except for those listed only under Addenda Requirements
    • Any course directed to a non-Addenda requirement through an approved exception

Exceptions to and substitutions for certificate requirements may be made with the approval of the unit's Director of Undergraduate Studies, subject to final approval by the College of Arts and Sciences.
