- This course focuses on iconic historical figures and literary characters who continue to resonate in the 20th- and 21st- century cultural imagination. Drawing upon primary texts from the Middle Ages through the Seventeenth Century, the course investigate these cultural icons and what they mean in modern times. Taught in Spanish.

- A practical approach to the problems and techniques of Spanish/English and English/Spanish translation, using a variety of texts and concentrating on such critical areas of stylistics as tone, rhythm, imagery, nuance, allusion, etc. Language and translation theory will also be studied.

- Description
- Enables undergraduates to make intellectual connections between scholarly pursuits and community involvement. Students arrange 1 credit hour of service work on a creative project that benefits a community, or with local or international nonprofit organizations, government agencies, activist groups, or foundations. Requires a reflection paper on the experience.

HISP-X 395 Global Experience in Spanish and Portuguese

- Description
- International experience in Spanish and Portuguese. It can also be taken in combination with another Spanish and Portuguese course. Topics vary from semester to semester.
- Repeatability
- May be repeated for a maximum of 12 credit hours.
HISP-X 398 Experiential Research

- Description
- Provides the opportunity to collaborate with a tenure-track faculty member on a research project. The project, product, and authorship (if applicable), will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
- Grading
- S/F grading.
- Track Residency. At least one (1) of the 400–498 level courses used to fulfill the requirements above must be completed on the Indiana University Bloomington campus.
- Track GPA, Hours, and Minimum Grade Requirements.
- Major GPA. A GPA of at least 2.000 for all courses taken in the major—including those where a grade lower than C- is earned—is required.
- Major Minimum Grade. Except for the GPA requirement, a grade of C- or higher is required for a course to count toward a requirement in the major.
- Major Upper Division Credit Hours. At least 18 credit hours in the major must be completed at the 300–499 level.
- Major Residency. At least 18 credit hours in the major must be completed in courses taken through the Indiana University Bloomington campus or an IU-administered or IU co-sponsored Overseas Study program.
- College Breadth. At least 58 credit hours must be completed in courses from College of Arts and Sciences disciplines outside of the major area.

Courses that may apply toward the Credit Hours and GPA requirements in this academic program include all courses listed on the requirement course lists at the time the course was taken as well as any other courses that are deemed functionally equivalent.

Exceptions to and substitutions for track requirements may be made with the approval of the unit's Director of Undergraduate Studies, subject to final approval by the College of Arts and Sciences.
