- Introduces students to Chinese film, music, and film and music industries. Focus on ethnomusicological approaches to the study of film, methods for reading film music, and learning to read Chinese films and listen to their soundtracks in relation to their representations of Chinese culture.

- Description
- Designed as a practicum for students to work collaboratively in applying the methods and approaches of folklore studies to public needs and public programs. Students will engage in a variety of outreach projects linking the university to the larger community in the areas of public arts and culture and cultural documentation.

FOLK-X 476 Museum Practicum in Folklore

- Description
- Independent, supervised, folklore-oriented practicum at a campus or community museum or systematic research collection relevant to folklore, ethnography, or cultural history. Participatory activities will be supplemented by reading and writing activities.

FOLK-X 477 Field Experience in Folklore/Ethnomusicology

- Supervised work in public programs such as arts agencies, museums, historical commissions, and archives, including those housed at IU. Relevant readings and written report required.

FOLK-X 490 Individual Study in Folklore

- 300–399 Level Electives. One (1) course:
- Minor GPA, Hours, and Minimum Grade Requirements.
- Minor GPA. A GPA of at least 2.000 for all courses taken in the minor—including those where a grade lower than C- is earned—is required.
- Minor Minimum Grade. Except for the GPA requirement, a grade of C- or higher is required for a course to count toward a requirement in the minor.
- Minor Upper Division Credit Hours. At least 9 credit hours in the minor must be completed at the 300–499 level.
- Minor Residency. At least 9 credit hours in the minor must be completed in courses taken through the Indiana University Bloomington campus or an IU-administered or IU co-sponsored Overseas Study program.
