- For honors students only. Introduction to various approaches in historical scholarship, illustrated with the work of professors in the department.
- Repeatability
- May be taken two times for a maximum of 6 credit hours.

- Honors Thesis. Six (6) credit hours:

- Description
- Senior-level course for honors students only. Training in research and writing, culminating in an honors thesis to be written under direction of a faculty member. An oral examination over the thesis is conducted by three faculty members.

- Honors Paper. Three (3) credit hours:

- Description
- Senior-level course for honors students only. Training in research and writing, culminating in an honors paper to be written under direction of a faculty member and reviewed by the director of the History Honors Program.
- Repeatability
- May be repeated for a maximum of 3 credit hours.
- Honors Thesis. Six (6) credit hours:
- GPA. Complete a minimum of 33 credits in History with:
- 3.500 History Major GPA.
- 3.300 College GPA.
- GPA, Hours, and Minimum Grade Requirements.
- Students must have a College GPA of 3.300 or higher to qualify for admission to a Departmental Honors program and to receive Departmental Honors. Units may set a higher College GPA.
- Units establish additional criteria, including admissions procedures, academic performance standards, and whether there are required courses, papers, or projects.
- Students who wish to earn honors in two different units must complete a distinct body of work for each honors notation.
Exceptions to and substitutions for honors requirements may be made with the approval of the unit's Director of Undergraduate Studies, subject to final approval by the College of Arts and Sciences.
Interested students should submit an application during the spring semester of sophomore or junior year, to include transcripts, a writing sample, and at least one letter of recommendation from a History Department faculty member.
