Description

The Certificate in Business German is a passport to careers in German multinationals, European trade partners, international business, law, and government. It is a powerful complement to majors in business, economics, international relations, public affairs, or the humanities.

Certificate requirements

The certificate requires at least 24 credit hours, including the requirements listed below.

  1. Intermediate German II. One (1) course:
  2. Fifth-Semester College German. One (1) course:
  3. Sixth-Semester College German. One (1) course:
  4. Advanced College German. One (1) course:
    • (Business German section)
  5. Electives in Germanic Studies. Six (6) credit hours:
    • GER-V 405
  6. Courses Taught in German. At least 18 credit hours for the certificate must be completed in courses taught in German.
  7. Outside Electives. Two (2) options from the following:
    • BUS-C 204 Business Communication
    • Both of the following:
      • BUS-D 270 The Global Business Environments
      • BUS-X 271 Global Business Analysis
    • BUS-D 311 Global Management
    • BUS-D 312 Building Managerial Cross Cultural Competencies
    • BUS-G 202 Business, Government, and Society
    • BUS-G 494 Public Policy and the International Economy
    • (approved topic: "Economics of European Integration")
    • (approved topic: "The Idea of Europe")

  8. GPA and Hours Requirements.
    1. Certificate Residency. At least 9 credit hours in the certificate must be completed in courses taken through the Indiana University Bloomington campus or an IU-administered or IU co-sponsored Overseas Study program.
    2. Certificate Upper Division Courses. At least 9 credit hours in the certificate must be completed at the 300–499 level.
    3. Minimum Grade. Except for the GPA requirement, a grade of C- or higher is required for a course to count toward a requirement in the certificate.
    4. Certificate GPA. A GPA of at least 2.000 for all courses taken in the certificate—including those where a grade lower than C- is earned—is required.
