Description

The Minor in Classical Civilization offers students with little or no knowledge of the Greek and Latin languages the opportunity to explore either the culture and literature or art and archaeology of ancient Greece and Rome.

Minor requirements

The minor requires at least 15 credit hours, including the requirements listed below.

  1. Introductory Course. One (1) course:
  2. Emphasis. Choose one of the following:
    • Culture and Literature.
      1. Introduction to Mythology. One (1) course:
      2. Culture and Literature Electives. Three (3) courses:

        • (approved topics only; see academic advisor)
        • (approved topics only; see academic advisor)
    • Art and Archaeology.
      1. Introduction to Classical Art and Archaeology. One (1) course:
      2. Classical Art and Archaeology Electives. Three (3) courses:

        • (approved topics only; see academic advisor)
  3. GPA and Hours Requirements.
    1. Minor Residency. At least 9 credit hours in the minor must be completed in courses taken through the Indiana University Bloomington campus or an IU-administered or IU co-sponsored Overseas Study program.
    2. Minor Upper Division Courses. At least 9 credit hours in the minor must be completed at the 300–499 level.
    3. Minimum Grade. Except for the GPA requirement, a grade of C- or higher is required for a course to count toward a requirement in the minor.
    4. Minor GPA. A GPA of at least 2.000 for all courses taken in the minor—including those where a grade lower than C- is earned—is required.
