Description

The Minor in Theatre and Drama introduces students to the study and practice of theatre, including the core disciplines of acting, design, and theatre history. In addition, through upper-level electives, students may concentrate in the theatre subfield of their choice.

Minor requirements

The minor requires at least 18 credit hours, including the requirements listed below.

  1. Introductory course. One (1) course:
  2. Acting I. One (1) course:
  3. Performance as Art and Design. One (1) course:
  4. Theatre History and Dramatic Literature. One (1) course:
  5. Electives. Two (2) additional courses:
    • Dramatic literature, theatre history, and dramatic theory
      • With permission of the Director of Undergraduate Studies:
    • Acting, directing, movement, and voice and speech
      • With permission of the Director of Undergraduate Studies:
    • Scenic design, stagecraft, lighting design, costume design, sound design, and stage management
      • With permission of the Director of Undergraduate Studies:
    • Playwriting
      • With permission of the Director of Undergraduate Studies:
  6. GPA and Hours Requirements.
    1. Minor Residency. At least 9 credit hours in the minor must be completed in courses taken through the Indiana University Bloomington campus or an IU-administered or IU co-sponsored Overseas Study program.
    2. Minor Upper Division Courses. At least 9 credit hours in the minor must be completed at the 300–499 level.
    3. Minimum Grade. Except for the GPA requirement, a grade of C- or higher is required for a course to count toward a requirement in the minor.
    4. Minor GPA. A GPA of at least 2.000 for all courses taken in the minor—including those where a grade lower than C- is earned—is required.
