Degrees Awarded with Distinction

Policy statement

The College recognizes outstanding performance in coursework by awarding bachelor's degrees with three levels of distinction: Distinction, High Distinction, and Highest Distinction. 

To qualify, students must have completed at least 60 graded (A-F grades) credit hours at Indiana University and have met the minimum College GPA established by the College for the graduation term.

Following each Summer graduation cycle, the College will determine the minimum College GPA required for distinction for the following Fall, Spring, and Summer graduating classes. The College will combine the three preceding graduating classes—Fall, Spring, and Summer—into a single population and calculate the GPA floors corresponding to the top 3%, 6%, and 10% of that population. Students who meet these minimum GPA criteria will be awarded Highest Distinction, High Distinction, or Distinction, respectively.
