Minor in Geography

Requirements

The minor requires at least 15 credit hours, including the requirements listed below.
  1. Introductory course. One (1) course:
    • GEOG-G 107 Physical Systems of the Environment
    • GEOG-G 109 Weather and Climate
    • GEOG-G 110 Human Geography in a Changing World
    • GEOG-G 120 Regions of the World
    • GEOG-G 208 Environment and Society
  2. Geographic Methodology. One (1) course:
    • GEOG-G 237 Mapping our World: From Mercator to Mashups
    • GEOG-G 250 Computing in the Geospatial Sciences
    • GEOG-G 336 Environmental Remote Sensing
    • GEOG-G 338 Geographic Information Systems
    • GEOG-G 350 Field Methods in Physical Geography
    • GEOG-G 388 Qualitative Methods in Geography
    • GEOG-G 488 Applied Spatial Statistics
  3. Electives. Additional credit hours in Geography as needed to fulfill remaining requirements, including at least nine (9) credit hours at the 300–499 level.
  4. Minor GPA, Hours, and Minimum Grade Requirements.
    1. At least 9 credit hours in the minor must be completed in courses taken through the Indiana University Bloomington campus or an IU-administered or IU co-sponsored Overseas Study program.
    2. At least 9 credit hours in the minor must be completed at the 300–499 level.
    3. Except for the GPA requirement, a grade of C- or higher is required for a course to count toward a requirement in the minor.
    4. A GPA of at least 2.000 for all courses taken in the minor—including those where a grade lower than C- is earned—is required.
    5. Exceptions to minor requirements may be made with the approval of the department's Director of Undergraduate Studies, subject to final approval by the College of Arts and Sciences.
