Departmental Honors

Researching and writing a departmental honors thesis offers high-achieving students a way to deepen their command of an area of interest. Completing an honors thesis is a particularly good exercise if you are considering graduate school.

Many of students choose projects with both an academic and a creative component, such as a research paper coupled with a dance performance.

Requirements

To be awarded Departmental Honors, students admitted the program must meet the following criteria at graduation:

  1. College GPA of 3.300 or higher.
  2. 33 credit hours, to include 9 credit hours of honors course work in theatre and drama at the 300–499 level, 6 of which must be in THTR-T399 and THTR-T 499.
  3. A senior project of a creative or research nature, which may be counted as part of the THTR-T 499 requirements.
  4. College of Arts and Sciences Requirements

  5. Students must have a College GPA of 3.300 or higher to qualify for admission to a Departmental Honors program and to receive Departmental Honors. Units may set a higher College GPA.
  6. Units establish additional criteria, including admissions procedures, academic performance standards, and whether there are required courses, papers, or projects.
  7. Students who wish to earn honors in two different units must complete a distinct body of work for each honors notation.
