Department of Classical Studies
Minor in Greek
A Minor in Greek enables students to begin to access some of the world's most exciting and profound texts in the original language. It allows students to immerse themselves in the language and culture of ancient Greece while also providing them with important analytical skills that can be adapted to a wide range of other fields.
Requirements
The minor requires at least 15 credit hours, including the requirements listed below.

- This course is the first of a two-semester sequence that introduces students to the grammar and vocabulary of Ancient Greek in order to prepare them to read Ancient Greek literature in its original language and to understand the beliefs, values, and perspectives of the unique culture that produced it.

- Description
- This course is the second of a two-semester sequence that introduces students to the grammar and vocabulary of Ancient Greek. By the end of the course, students will be equipped to read Ancient Greek literature and will have a more sophisticated understanding of the culture that produced it.

- Minor GPA, Hours, and Minimum Grade Requirements.
- Minor GPA. A GPA of at least 2.000 for all courses taken in the minor—including those where a grade lower than C- is earned—is required.
- Minor Minimum Grade. Except for the GPA requirement, a grade of C- or higher is required for a course to count toward a requirement in the minor.
- Minor Upper Division Credit Hours. At least 9 credit hours in the minor must be completed at the 300–499 level.
- Minor Residency. At least 9 credit hours in the minor must be completed in courses taken through the Indiana University Bloomington campus or an IU-administered or IU co-sponsored Overseas Study program.

- Any course contained on the course lists for the academic program requirements at the time the course is taken—as well as any other courses that are deemed functionally equivalent—except for those listed only under Addenda Requirements
- Any course directed to a non-Addenda requirement through an approved exception
