BIOL-M 380 Microbiology of Infectious Disease

- Description
- Serves as a guide to the complex subject of infectious disease. Builds on basic biological principles to examine different agents of disease, the major modes of transmission, interaction of pathogens with the host immune system, and the ecological factors facilitating or inhibiting the emergence of epidemic disease.

BIOT-T 412 Product Development, Regulation, and Commercialization in Biotechnology

- Analyzes the scientific, regulatory and commercial considerations used to develop and market products across biotechnology industries. Successful biotechnology-related products require input from basic research, manufacturing, regulatory, legal, medical and marketing perspectives. The balance of these factors across the industry will be discussed, with special attention given to pharmaceutical drug development.

BIOT-X 499 Biotechnology Research Capstone

- Biotechnology major; junior or senior standing; at least one credit of BIOT-T 490 or BIOT-X 498; minimum GPA or 3.000; and consent of instructor

- Student designs and performs an independent research project under the supervision of a faculty mentor. Requires a final written report on the research. If two semesters of BIOT-X 499 are completed and other departmental honors requirements are met, the written report may be used as an Honors thesis.

- Minor GPA, Hours, and Minimum Grade Requirements.
- At least 9 credit hours in the minor must be completed in courses taken through the Indiana University Bloomington campus or an IU-administered or IU co-sponsored Overseas Study program.
- At least 9 credit hours in the minor must be completed at the 300–499 level.
- Except for the GPA requirement, a grade of C- or higher is required for a course to count toward a requirement in the minor.
- A GPA of at least 2.000 for all courses taken in the minor—including those where a grade lower than C- is earned—is required.
- Exceptions to minor requirements may be made with the approval of the department's Director of Undergraduate Studies, subject to final approval by the College of Arts and Sciences.
