Concentration in Organizations and Institutions (Bachelor of Arts in Management and Human Organization)

The Organizations and Institutions concentration allows students to put business and management practices in their larger organizational and institutional context.

Requirements

The concentration requires at least 12 credit hours, including the requirements listed below.
  1. Economic and Political Studies. One (1) course:
    • ECON-E 203 Introduction to International Economics
    • ECON-E 303 Survey of International Economics
    • INTL-I 203 Global Development
    • POLS-Y 335 Western European Politics
    • POLS-Y 343 The Politics of International Development
  2. Historical and Cultural Studies. One (1) course:
    • ANTH-E 383 A World of Work
    • HIST-A 379 Issues in Modern United States History (approved topics: "Big Business and American History"; "The Rich in History")
    • HIST-J 300 Seminar In History (approved topics: "Law and Commerce in China"; "History of American Capitalisms")
    • HIST-W 330 Money and History
  3. Sociological and Psychological Studies. One (1) course:
    • PSY-P 323 Industrial/Organizational Psychology
    • SOC-S 210 Economic Sociology
    • SOC-S 302 Organizations in Society
    • SOC-S 315 Work in the New Economy
  4. Elective. One (1) course:
    • Additional course from the Economic and Political Studies list above
    • Additional course from the Historical and Cultural Studies list above
    • Additional course from the Sociological and Psychological list above
    • Another course with approval of the LAMP Director
  5. Concentration GPA, Hours, and Minimum Grade Requirements.
    1. Concentration GPA. A GPA of at least 2.000 for all courses taken in the concentration—including those where a grade lower than C- is earned—is required.
    2. Concentration Minimum Grade. Except for the GPA requirement, a grade of C- or higher is required for a course to count toward a requirement in the concentration.
    3. Concentration Upper Division Credit Hours. At least 9 credit hours in the concentration must be completed at the 300–499 level.

This program of study cannot be combined with the following:

  • Concentration in Management and Communication (Bachelor of Arts in Management and Human Organization) (MHOMCCON)

Exceptions to and substitutions for concentration requirements may be made with the approval of the unit's Director of Undergraduate Studies, subject to final approval by the College of Arts and Sciences.
