Departmental Honors--Interdepartmental B.A. in Philosophy and Political Science (Departmental Honors Programs)

Students on Summer 2023, Fall 2023, or Spring 2024 requirements PHIL-HON-P

Outstanding undergraduate majors in the Interdepartmental B.A. in Philosophy and Political Science may be eligible for participation in the Philosophy/Political Science Interdepartmental Honors Program.

Requirements

  1. Honors Thesis Directed Research. Complete one (1) of the following sequences with grades of B+ or higher. The sequence chosen should correspond to the department of the faculty advisor:
    • Philosophy Honors Sequence.
      1. Thesis Research. One (1) course:
        • PHIL-P 498 Honors Thesis Directed Research
      2. Honors Thesis Course. One (1) course:
        • PHIL-P 499 Honors Thesis
    • Political Science Honors Sequence. Two (2) semesters:
      • POLS-Y 499 Honors Thesis
  2. Honors Thesis. Write a single honors thesis that combines topics and issues from both philosophy and political science to be read and graded by an honors committee consisting of faculty from both departments.
  3. Major GPA. A Philosophy and Political Science major grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.500 is required.
  4. College GPA. A College grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.300 is required.

Exceptions to and substitutions for honors requirements may be made with the approval of the unit's Director of Undergraduate Studies, subject to final approval by the College of Arts and Sciences.
